MASTERTON A. & P. ASSOCIATION.
Horse Parade. ~
The parade of entire horses, h?ld yesterday under the auspices of the Masterton A. and P. Association, cannot he considered a success, owing to the inclement weather very few horses were brought on the ground, owners in one or two cases after having brought their horses to town during the morning, yet declined to expose them to thedrizzling rain that continued during the whole of the afternoon. The attendance of farmers was large, and keen disappointment was felt on all sides that the parade had been spoilt, and, as will be teen by a notice in another column, the Committee have derided to hold it over again on Saturday next, when if the weather is favourable we expect to seo a large number of horses. If the parade yesterday was short in point of entries it was by no means deficient in the quality of the animals presented, and the public were ready to acknowledge that so far there was no reason to grumble at the class of horses offered to breedors this secson. Jn the thoroughbred class
RANDWIOK looked all over, the racehorse he has proved on so many of the New Zealand race courses, and Mr Gave is justly proud of his latest purchase, The only other representative of this class was our old acquaintance
DUKE. Another grand old race-horse, and sire of many good horses in this locality, Despite his twenty-one years ho wae as lively as any youngster, Dilke has strains of the blood ot some of the best horses that ever performed on tho English turf, In Olydesdales
I MARQUIS OF SALISBURY came in for a large share of attention, and looked well. Compact, aotive, and with a good temper, he may bo expected to leave behind him a useful class of farmer's horses. For immense bone -r Nil Djssperanddm has scarce an equal in this district, and will prove a serviceable horse to breeders if a suitable class of mares are selected for him. He v/as in the pink of condition yesterday, and his powerful build was much commented on. Another favorite and well-known horse,
MacGreoor, a fine Olydesdale was aIBO present, looking in excellent condition, Hi? owner (Ur Cave) should have no difficulty in easily filling his list this season, for tho horse has sired some. vory useful stock in this distfiot,
I _ Robin Hood is an active and powerful horse and i calculated to leave a very useful class of stock, Wo learn that he is very staunch, and that be can waltz away with a boavy load, and has an excellont pace, wliile a boy can manage.him, The newly-imported trotting stallion.
ALBINO, the property of Mr Buekeridge, was on the ground for a short time and 'came in for a good deal of notice, He is said to be very fast and comes from a good family,'
Mr Clark, of Ashburton, paraded bis two Olydesdale colts and they wore much admired, opinion being verj divided between the two animals. The two year old, Rosoneath's Pride, was, if anything, the more popular, and looked a splendid animal. The three year old-King's Prideis of course more formed, but both horses are well and fashionably bred, and a credit to their owner, We learn that the two year old has been purchased by Mr Rayner of the Taratabi, and will remain in the it is probable the three year old will also bo disposed of - in this dielriot,
