MASTERTON BOYS' CLUB.
Fohuql Opening by the Earl of Glasgow. ; Since the idea of forming a Boys' Club in Maeterton was first started, the very liveliest interest has been taken in its promotion, and a number of Masterton gontlemon have been untiring in their efforts to set the association on a firm and proper basis, and to Eeo it in good going order, Foremost amongst the promoters is ths Rev. W.E.Paige, M. A,, who bus devoted much time and attention to the matter, and has accepted the offioe of Present to the Club, '/jSSlutcernoon the Club was form■lff "opened by Hiß Eiccellenoy the Earl of Glaßgow, who, in raponse to the invitation of the Rov. Mr Paige, vory kindly consented to journey to ■ Masterton, specially for the occasion, His Excelleuoy arrived at Masterton at one o'clock to-day accompanied by Mr Clayton, A.D.C, and was received by the Rev. W. E. Paige and Mr W.G. Beard on behalf of the Club, after which he was driven to the residence of Mr W, H. Beetham for lunch, At a quarter to two nearly fifty members of the Club, headed by Pearson's Private Brass Band marched from the schoolroom to Mr Beethatn'a residence and were inspected by tho Governor, who made some very com,,r%jjnlary rerosrks on tho general '' of the lads. An adjourn-, ment was then made to the Theatre Royal, where a large crowd was assembled, Queen-street being lined with spectators. The Eev. W. B. Paige, the Club's President, opened the proceedings with some introductory remarks, after which H»,Excollenoy delivered an interesting address (a report of which will appear in our issue of to-morrow). Mr W. G. Beard returned thanks to His Excellency for his kindness in coming to Masterton to open the Club, after wbioh tho proceedings terminated,
