ST. LUKE'S CHURCH GREYTOWN.
A special meeting of members flan held in Mr Wood'B office last night. Present Messrs F, H. Wood in the obair, Messrs G. Flux, S. Gretdwell, F. Trotman, W. F. Koydhoine, G. Wyett, and M. R, Varnham.
Tbe chairman stated that the object of tbe meeting was mainly to dovise means lor paying upthestipend due to the Rev. T. B. Maclean. Tho Treaanrtr reported tho Bank overdraft was now £22 Is, against which tbero wero subscriptions last year of £l2, leaving a deficiency of £lO Is, On tho Brd of Bcptomber, £BO would be due for stipend makiug a total to bo make ud of £4O Is.
It was resolved that the half year subscriptions should bo at onoe collected. If tbo subscribers respond promptly this will put tho vestry in funds.
A letter was read by the obairman from Arohdeaoou Faucourt slating that be regretted he knew of no one yet to fill the vacancy caused by Mr Maclean's reiuovel.
The Chairman brought up the question of a farewell to tbe Rev. Mr Maclean, & socisl had been mooted, and he had mentioned it to Mr Maclean, who expressed himself gratified at the proposal, as it would enable him to say farewell to the parishioners, all of whom he could not possibly visit. 1 The Chairman proposed that a social j should bo held on tho 3rd October, and that a committee consisting of the Testry be formed to carry it out, and that the refreshment portion of it be left to the wives of the vestrymen, and that Archdeaoou Fancourt invited to be present.-Carried.
Mr M, R, Varnham tendered his resignation as a member of the vestry, 'and also his duties in connection with the choir, lie regretted going away for many reasons, and hoped to take up church work in Waipawa, for which place he was leaving. The Chairman paid the resignation must, of course, be accepted and received with very great regret, for Mr Varnham had alwayp beon connected with church work from a boy. Ho moved that the resignation be accepted with regret, and that a vote of thanks be accorded him for his past services, and best wishes be extended to him in his new sphere of work. Mr Flux seconded, and tbe motion waß carried.
