No movement Las yet been made by cricketers in Masterton, with the ex j ception of the Tradesmen and the Excelsior (jnuior) Clubs. If terton Cricket Club intend to do anything this season, it is high time they took some steps to let pooplo know they itro still alive.

The following officers have been elected by tbe Carterton Cricket Club: —Mr W. C Buchanan, M.H.R., Patron; Mr T, Price, President; Messrs A, Bish, G. A. i'airbrother, G. W, Deller, Dr, Johnston, J. The twenth-sixth annual meeting of the abovo Club was held in tho Oddfellow's Hall, last Saturday evouing. There was a large number of member? present, and tho meeting waß a most satisfactory and enthusiastic one, The chair was occupied by Mr H. S. Izard, Vice-President,

The following telegram to the secr«tary, from W. 0. Buobanan, Esq,, M.H.8., wbo wss to have presided, was read: "Mr LBvin's funeral detains me hero; kindly convey my regret to tho members that I cannot be with them tonight." The Chairman briefly commented fonthe loss of tho late Mr Levin, jfjki always been active in supporting all athletics, and bad givon athletes a great many trophies, The loss would be deeply felt by all. Tho minutes of the previous meeting were read and adopted. The Secretary's report, of which tho following is on extract, was read and Last season the Club played 20 matcnes, far eclipsing the previous year'B record, 12 of them were won, 7 lost, and 1 drawn, Both elevens played an even number of matches, viz. 10. The seniors had won six, and were defeated in four, while the second eleven recorded 6 wins, 5 losses, and 1 draw. Mr S, Nicbolla (capt.), beads the batting list of the flrst eleven, with 11, taking the bat presented by Mr Izard, Mr Rogers' bowling trophy waß won by Mr E. Ho hoped the tour would become an annual affair, Hie Olub has lost two valuable men in Messrs A. A. Elder and A. Udy, who have both left.the district. A pleasing feature lust season was tho interest the ladies hud taken in the Olub, and who had on nearly nvcry occasion treated tho visiting teams to afternoon tea. Ho wiahed to thank the membora and officers for thoir courtesy and' assistance, which had mado his duties a pleasure, and more especially tho Treasurer, Mr W. J, Knoll, who had for many years been untiring in his efforts for the Club's wellaro. Ho concluded by asking tho co-operation of everyone conneo'ed with the Olnb, in order to make the coining season even more successful that the last one. Tho Treasurer's report and balance sbeot woro road and adopted'. The former showed that the Olub had last season a large number of active members, viz, 45 membora and 14 honorary members, The large membership had necessitated the expenditure uf £l2 Ids H on a more extensive snpply of material. The Chairman congratulated the Olub on its Satisfactory financial position, and was glad to notice thai not oco subscription remained unpaid, Tho following now members were elected:— Messrs E, R, G, Rutherftird, (i. McParlane, J. B, Wither, iud A, McKenzio. The election of officers resulted as follows:—President, J. P. Russidl Esq. (re-eleoted); Vice-Piosidents, W. 0. Buchanan teq., M.H.R.,and M Basra H, S. Izard and F, H.Wood, Mayor (ro-olected); Treasurer, Mr J. Knell (re-elected); Secretary, Mr T. J. Eowse, (re-elected); General Com-mittee-Messrs J, l\ Wither, JAI. Hawke, A, L. Webster, W. Erunton, H. Duff, H. Hawk«, and S. Nioholls (ro-elected). Captain, Mr S, Nicholl s (re-elected); Deputy Oa plain, Mr H, Hawke (re-elected). Match Com-mittee-Messrs Howso, Hawke and Nicholls. Mr Withor was proposed,but declined to act, as lie was new to tho individual play of the members.

Messrs Eowse, H. Hnwke, and A, L. Webster wero proposed as delegates to the Recreation Keserve Committee, and as only two are required, ballot was taken, which resulted in favour of the two former, Ground Committee: Messrs Wither, Brunton, Nicoll, H, Hawke and J, Eccleton,

Mr Fd. Hawke proposed that the 2nd doyen bavo a Matoh Committee of their own, but it was found that it was not in accordance- with the rules. Several members spoke upon the advisability of the matter, and lke|Chairman suggested that a special meeting be held to aheritho rule.

Mr Beard proposed, and Mr Knell seconded, that Messrs Izard, Wither, and the Secretary be appointed a commit'ee to revise the rules, to be adopted at n special meeting to be held on Saturday, 80tli insi,— Carried.

A requisition was signed by sevon members (a3 required by the rules) that the meeting he hold.

Mr A. L, Webster wm ra elected Auditor, and the Secretary suggested that the Club loase the Recreation Rcsorvo for ayeur. His reason was, that sheep are allowed to graze on and around the pitch, causing a groat deal of trouble in keeping ilio pilch clean, Sir Fred Hawko suggested that wire netting bo placed mound a small patch in a corner, as then the sheep would go over there,. mistaking it for the pitch, Air Beard proposed that the Club endeavour to lease the Reserve for at 'least six months. Mi Knoll seconded, After, considerablo discus-ion us to how the grass was to be kept down, it was decided to leave the matter in the hands of the Delegates to the Roserve Committee.

Mr Knell proposed, and Mr Brunton seconded, that the season open on the 14th October,—Carried.

It was proposed that the season open ivith a Fancy Costume Match, or Married v. Single Matoh, Tho following amendments were proposed (1.) That tbe match bo Lefthand batsmen v. Right-hand, (2.) That Ist eleven piny the next eighteen, (3.) That it be between a team picked by the Captain, and one bythe Deputy Captain. It was resolved upon the casting vote of the chair, that the match be Left v, Right-hand batsmen, Mr Knell proposed and Izard Mr ! seconded, that a hearty vote of thanks be accorded to the ladies who bad so generously provided' afternoon tea during last season.—Carried by acclamation.

Mr Brunton proposed a vote of thanks to the retiring officers, which Mr Izard seconded/tftt/irma specially mentioning the Secretary anil Treasurer,

The following trophies were then prosonted:—Mr Izard's bat to highest batting in Ist eleven to MrS. Nichollsj Mr Izard's bat to highest scorer in 2nd eleven to Mr H. Udy; Mr Rogers' ball for best bowline average In Ist eleven to Mr E. W. Udy; Mr nillier's pendant to the heat average man to Mr W, Judd; Members of the Club's bat to Mr fl. Hawke w a special mark of recognition of bi» energy and interest in tho Club's welfare, Mr Izard promised to give bate again this coming Season, upon the same conditions as last, and Mr Enell promised to again give a trophy lo the member securing the most catches in the 2nd eleven. Mr Beard said he would give a bat (o anyone in the distriot who makes the highest score in any ono innings i with a bat bought from him; he being agent for "Sykes"'bats. Tho Seoretary proposed, and H, B.
