EXTRAORDINARY STORM.

Nelson, September 14,
An extraordinary storm was experienced bore thia afternoon and evening, About 2.30 a small whirlwind passed through tho centre of the town. Some pieces of roofing, iron and timber, wero raised by the wind from Sooit'a the builder's, yard and carried across Halifax street, over a large garden and another street, but no damage was done. A tree at tbe comer of Church bill was wrenched off at the roots, end some fences were levelled, In other parts of the town tbe wind was scarcely noticed, A romarkably heavy downpour followed, accompanied between 5 and 6 o'clock by thunder and lightning. Waimearoad and street wero flooded, and near the railway station tho water was over knee deep in the street and that deep in tho Postboy Hotel. On the hill side there are several landslips, and at lbs Port one family had to leavo their residence on accouut of a slip. Between this and Richmond road is flooded, but tbe heavy rain appears to have been very local
