ST. MATTHEW'S CONCERT.

A most enjoyable conceit was given in St. Matthew's SiJjoolroom last evening, and r.ouvithslandini! the inclement weather was attended by a select and appreciative audience. Mica Hilda Williams (who also made her first appearance) favoured the audience with two songs" Banks of Allan Water" and " Love lias Eyes" ond her rich cultivated voice was heard to distinct advantage, A gentlemaE from Wellington kindly took the place ofabsmtees, and played two splendidly executed violin solos, Mr W. Simcs, who had already become quite a favourite, was • heartily oncored for his song "For Love Alone," which was given in n real masterly manner, The duet betweeD this gentleman and Miss Lowes, entitled "Maying" was another gem, the •voices blending beautifully, ■ The Maitcrton Orchestra varied the programme by playing a selection of Scotch airs in their usual high-class manner, ■ and the piano duets "Martha" and Iho "Hungarian March" wero played by Mrs Anketell and Miss Meredith, and Mrs Paige and Miss Lowes, respectively. The two Inst mentioned ladies also played a duct arranged for piano and harmonium in a highly creditable manner. Mr Astalfiwin excellent voice, and gave "Gates of the West" and "Watching" with good effect. Miss Watson sung "Will He Come" very prettily, and received well merited applause, Mr Robinson, who is always a welcomo addition to any concert programme, sang two songs " The Sentinel Am I," and " Simon tbe Cellarer," in splendid style. The accompaniments wero played by Mrs Paige, and the Mifses Lowes, Brown, and Williams, and a much enjoyed concert con-1 eluded with the National Anthem.
