Important Amendment, (By Telegrnph—Own Correspondent.) Wellington, Wednesday, The Lend for Settlement Act Amendment Bill has passed through the Waste Lands Committee with some important amondment. Under its provisions land required for a homestead settlement can be exchanged, purohased, or taken compulsorily, under" The Public Works Act," but this power cannot be exercised against a holder of yeas than 1000 acres of first class, large estates, All owners of large estates arc allowed three months after the notification to select the aforementioned areas for exemption from tho provisions of the Act. Power is taken by proclamation to prohibit the sale of pastoral land in Nelsou and MarlorßOOOacres ofpastoral land, unless of borough, tlio object being to prevent iho sacrifice of large areas of pastoral country through tho acquisition, privately, of tho freehold of the natural frontages.
