(By Telegraph—Press Association). Wellington, Thursday. Bobort Johns, who was on Tuesday convicted of robbery with violence from a shepherd named John MoLeod was brought up fur sentence. His Honor said that the prisoner's record diboloaed a number of aots of violence on his part sinoe 1890, such as assaults on tho police, etc. It was so far in his favour that he had nevor been convicted of more serious crime, and chat the polico gave him the character of being a hard-working man oxcept when he oarae into town. Under these eiroumsiancea the sentence,which ho had previously intended to be two years', would be one of twelve months' imprisonment with hard libonr, Wellington, Thursday, The charge of malpractice against Caroline McGovorn was begun in the, Supreme Court this morning; but as soon as Mis Coleman, Bister of the girl Guitian wus put into the box, alio rofused to givo evidence unless granted a frpe pudon.
