Yesterday's Summary.

The Alcoholic Liquor Sale Control Bill has been fully reported from committee in the House of Representativss, and the third reading is fixed for to-day. Tho Rating Bill, which contains provisions for tbo taxing of Native lands, has been read a second time. The Electoral Hill Ims entered upon the committee stago in the Legislative Council, but no decision has yet been arrived at concerning tho women's franchise question. PUPIL TEACHERS 1 EXAMINATIONS. The Minister of Education stated yesterday that it was his opinion, and the opinion of the department, that tho demands exacted by most of the boards in pupil teachers' examinations are excessive, especially in requiring too many subjeois in one yoar. A much more reasonable regulation was drawn up some years ago, but, he regretted to say, was adopted only by the Wellington and Grey boards, r, THE FLAX INDUSTRY,

Tho manufactures and Industries Committee will probably recommend that a bonus should be given for suitable machinery for treating flax. The appointment of an expert for grading flax is also to be recom» rnonded, ■ ' THE SENTENCE ON A SALVATION ARMY OFFICER. In reply to Mr Taylor, the Hon, Mr Heeves said yesterday that Captain Kerr, of the Salvation Army, hud not been in gaol, and was not now iu gaol.
