Horsfall as a two-year-old, The thoroughbred entire Kandwick, by Barbarian, dam Gipsy Girl, (for extended pedigree see Victorian Stud Book) is one of the best that has ever raced on New Zealand turf; colour, golden chestnut; standing lifteen hands three inches high, of immense power and blood, pourtraying good temper, and traces descent from the most aristocratic strains o! racing blood iu the colonies, his sire being fu'l brother to The Bpib, the best horso of his day iD New South Wales, by the famed Sir Hercules out of Young Galnave, Bandwick is full brother to Gipsy Cooper, half brother to Zulu, winner of the Melbourne Cup, half brother to The Barber, champion weight-for-oge horse of Australia. Bandwick's career.on the turf was most brilliant. On oje occasion he gave the redoubtable Dillingsgate Mbs, at his own distance, and won comfortably. In 1881 Bandwick was second on the list of winners, having won over £1,500 in stakes in one season. Among these may be mentioned the Napier Cup of 500 sovs, and Wonganui Stakes of 250 sovs, beating Libeller, Natator, and a large field of the best cattle, Bandwick is notorious for carrying heavy weights over all courses, distance being no object to him. He has won the weightfor-ogo Auckland Plate, two miles, at Ellerslic; alsorau second in Master Handicap, giving the winner (the Poet) 2st lib, and was only defeated by a nose; won tho Dargaville Cup; won the big races next day, carrying over 9 stone; won Henderson Mill Cup, carrying 9st 21b and immediately afterwards won the Shorts 9st 91b, landed a few days a'terwards at Taranaki, and contested the Cup of 300 sovs, mrrying 9st, and was defeated by a short bead, giving the winner 2st 71b; won the landicap on the followipg day carrying 9st lib; started the following raco carrying list 21b, and won easily from a field of fresh horses.
