CORRESPONDENCE.

The Uncoiifidifig Secretary Explains. [TO THE EDITOIt, W.D. TIMES ] Sm—With regard to your hastily published local in Friday's .Daily Times, which I think you might have held over until you had obtained a private explanation from me, as previously' I have always aerie you a written report of Horticultural Society meetings." I beg to state that I was in the Wairabapa Daily Twits office on Tuesday, uud in conversation with -Mr Payton on horticultural mallei's I informed that gentleman that there was going to lie a meeting of the Committee on Wednesday evening, As no .'epreaentativeofthe Daily Times showed up at the meeting, I, as usunl, wrote an account of the business transacted, intending to sond it to the Times office, but I accidentally missed the lad that usually takes my letters; I saw no other means of senaiDg it iu time for Thursday's issue. While on the subject E should like to point out that although it is generally known at your office when the meetings of the Horticultural Society are going to he held, yet no representative of the W.O. Times attended any meeting last year, not even the annual meeting, neither did yiu publish the annual report and balance sheet as you ht>vo always done before. So that I wasbeginniug to think that horticultural niatterß wero not considered worthy of Bpace columns of the W.D, Times, lam very pleased to find that 1 <was mistaken and 'I hope that in the future you will givo horticultural matters as much publicity as yon do some of the inferior plays and travelling quacks who 'fleece the settlers, taking their mooey not only- out of the town but often out of the colony, —Yours etc, '

J. O. Alp Ass, Secretary. Mastcrton Horticultural Industrial Society. [Mr. Payton has no recollection of the statement referred toby Mr Alpass. , -En. W.D.T.]
