EDUCATIONAL.
Deputation to the Government (By Telegraph,—Press Association.) Wellington, Saturday. A large and influential deputation Waited on the Minister of Education, to press the claims of Wellington and tho adjoining districts to a University College, They asked that the same provisions should be made ifor them *as in the case of [Auckland, : Tho cause' of higher education was suffering from the want of a college and the interests of right and justice demanded its establishment. Mr Beeves said he was in thorough sympathy with the claims of the deputation and admitted the fairness of their demands, but the question resolved itself into one of funds and though it to clear the college would Ultimately have to be established, he did not thick' the House .would be induced to deal with tho subject this year. Ho wojld, however, lay the 1 matter before his colleagues, A suggestion h, utilise tbeTinakoriroad residence was mentioned, but the deputation were generally of opinion that half measures were of no use and would only retard the establishment! of a proper college.
