SHOCKING TRAM ACCIDENT.

A fatal aioidoßt ocourred on, the New Brighton tram yeste.'day after« noon, the victim being a young man named Pred Renner, son of the pro. priotbr of the Kaiboura peara that liq,' with others, m standing on tbe back platfonn of the front oar. On rounding a sharp, curve Renner let go hiß hold on the rail, and struck a match'to lights cigarette, He. having no support, the jerk threw him off, and in en-» deavouring to save himself he ! caught hold of the rail, and was thrown between the carriages. The ' result, was that the wheels went over hiin beforo the tram could be stopped. The injurieo received were of a shocking character, hisMeft arm being severely mailed, to'Bsbonldflr.blade crushed, and his collar-bone broken, and several ribs fractured, He was taken to the Hospital, and his arm wus amputated at the shoulder. 'He rallied somewhat about 8 o'clock, but gradually began to sink, and died at 12,80 An inquest will be held. Deceased was 21 years of age,
