Auckland, 12th August. Correspondence from bamoa atatas that 24 chiefs were sentenced to three' years'imprisonnieutwith hard labour. and 87 Mieaig of households'' werft fined 200 dollars each, 12 months, being allowed for payment. The Government prjposed to confiscate all the land belunging to tho prisoners, but the Consuls dissuaded them, on the ground that their desire to rognin their family properties might lead to future and serious trouble. A number of villages (vera fined various sums.
