A .letter was received from Messrs Williams.tand Beethaml're'ov'erflqw of water from Landsdowne, stating jhat they were willing to fall in witlraoy suggestion of tho Engineer on the matter. . SLAUaHTEBHOr4BE LICENSE, . . It, : was ;deoide;l Ho grant Messrs Ga'dSby Bros' application for a slaughterhouse license. ~'.''.. ■: '..OASILEPOIIiT BOAD. f .:."/■'■'■ It was resolved that .CrfMaunsell and the Engineer take the necessary steps to. have repairs effected to'the Tinui bridge,' as soon as the promised grant is received frcm the Castlepoint Road Board. ,•; . OHARITABI.EAID.; J /j The Chairman of the Horpwhenua County Council wrote with:;referenre to the proposed conference to consider .the question of the U.DiO.A. Board's levy. The' letter pointed out that the. motion of the N.W. County Council, .providing that Boroughs and other local bodies be represented at tue .proposed conference, was likely to hamper the Counties, as it was really a case of towns against the country in ibis, matter 1 ; and it would be well to consider if were likely to help the Oounties t) get relief. After some discussion it was resolved on the motion of' Cr von Redin seconded.by Cr Cookburn-Hood, that tho matter stand over until the December meeting. THEBATINO ACT, , The Palmerston North Borough Council wrote asking the Council to support a proposal to charge interest at the rate of 10 per cent per annum on all all rates oyer three months in arrear. Or von Redin thought they might ask Messrs Hogg and Buchanan to try and. obtain an alteration to clause 9, of the Rating Act .Amendment,, so. that the words" per annum" be struck out. He would move thie. Cr Smith seconded aud tho motion was. carried; < . '.. ;■' -.;:' OHONGA ROAD. '■ Mr Sheatli, of Ohonga, wrote stnting that at present a large portion of tberoad used by the public ran through his paddocks and asking the Council to put the proper line in order before the driving season. The matter was referred to the Engineer. THE OHONGA CULVERT. .'.' Mr MoCalmont, the County Overseer, wrote requesting : an answer to his previous letter re the Ohonga oulvert. c It was decided to refer the matter to Cr Handyside. . BEPOBTB. ..::■■•. The report, of the Finance Committee was read by : the Clerk. Accounts amounting to £716 5s 3d were recommended for payment and the report was adopted. ■ EHOINEEn'SKEPOBT. : The Engineer's report was'read. It was decided to ask owners who will benefit by the suggested Ruamahunga protective works, to contribute towards the same as suggested by the Engineer,
BOBOKOKO. I '"; Cr Stuokey gave notice of motion to rescind tho resolutions agreeing to tho lease of the Rorokoko cottage site, it being decided in the. meantime to ask Mr Levin; wbttber he will be prepared to maintain the rabbit-proof fence round the leasehold. ALTERATION OF BOUWDAKtES. Certain alterations «3 suggested by the Road Boards were agreed to, and it was deoided to agreo to other alterations - «eked for, as soon as the Boards interested forward written consent. .| TAWATAU TOLL, Cr Smith moved that a married couple be obtained, to live at the tollgate, the wife to collect tolls and the husband to work on tbo-'Qounty roads in the motion was lost, NATIVE LANOS. On the motion of Cr von Redin seconded by Cr Stuckey, it was deoided to petition the Government to amend the law with regard to taking roads through Native Lands, so that roads may be taken through such lands before the title has matured, whethes such' land is cultivated or not, and that Crs Cookburn Hood, Mauwell, Smith, Groves, and the mover be a committee to draw up a petition. LOOAL TAXATION. Cr Cockburn-Hood moved and Cr Smith seconded, that a copy of the report of the committee upon Local Taxation, passed by a large majority of the members of this Counoil, be stmt at-once to nil local 'bodies, requesting their co-operation.—Car-ried. THE BATING ACT. Cr Cockburn : Hood moved and Cr Smith seconded that in olanse 20 of the Rating Aot Amendment Act, (now before Parliament) the words after "affirmed by" bB fitruck out and thtf words "a majority of those voting" bo inserted in lieu thereof, and a copy be sent to the Member for the district-Carried. AL?REDTON ROAD DISIBIOT. Cr Smith moved and Crvon Redin seconded that tha special order merging the Alfredton Road District into the County be re-advertised, for confirmation at the next Council meeting'—Carried. The Clerk was direoted to ask' the Colonial Treasurer, whether he will be bound by the same prevision as to raising loans in the Alfredton District, when that district is merged.
