The Referendum Bill.
Wellington, Wednesday,
Mr Engono O'Connor is determined to push bis Referendum Bill to a second roading if possible in order to have the matter thoroughly talked about. The Bill provides for tbe following question?, to be submitted direct to the people by means of the I ballot box ;-(l) An alteration of tlie Constitution of the Colony. (2) An alteration in the present mode of con> ducting tho administration of. the government of the Colony, (3) An alteration of the electoral laws of the Colony, (i) An alteration of the land laws of the Colony. (5) An alteration of the education system. (6) Any proposal for a loan. (7) Any proposal to construot any railway (8J Any Dill whorein it shall bo provided that such Bill shall not become' law till there has been a vote thereon. The Bill is of course passed upon the prinoiple nf the system now in vogue in Switierland.
j Butter and Cheese. ■■ Mr McGuire will ask to-day for a select committee to bo set up to consider all matters pertaining to the classification of butter and cheese, and to provide for a Government expert to be appointed to luok after Inducers' interest in London, Rabbit Inspectors. Mr Buekland has given notice of motion to move that all Rabbit Inspectors shall be abolished, and tho whole question of dealing with the iabbit pest re-or^anised. Mr Fish Again. Mr Fish is still wonying al>out tbe cooperative painting of the Police Station and Supreme Court-house in Wellington, He now asks for a copy of the lenders leceived for painting the building in 1883. By the time Mr Fish has finished, tho painting will have been a costly job to tbe country, Jhe Direct Veto. The House will most probably go into Committee to-day on Sir Robert Stout's Licensing Act 1881 Amendment Bill, when a fresh stonewall may he looked for. Mr Fish, the indefatigable, has a rival measure to Sir Eobert Stout in the shape oi the Licensing Act 1881 Amendment Bill Do. 2. Needless to state the objects of both Bills,are somewhat diverse, ' Corrupt Practices. Mr Scobie Mackenzie's Corrupt Praoticcs Prevention Act Amendment Bill is almost sure togo safely through Committee,
