PAHIATUA NOTES.

(From Oor Own Correspondent,)

Heavy rains have fallen continuously for some days past, with the result that the rivers and creeks throughout the district are all in flood, and more damage is reported to the road in the County. The Manga* tainoka rivet overflowed its banks at Tutaekara, and came ovor the main road, falling into the Makakahi and increasing its volume. Communication between this and Pulmerslon is stopped, more Blips being reported in the Gorge, but I understand" they are not of very large dimensions, and will be oleured in about 21 hours.

The long looked for holiday (Arbor Day) was completely spoiled by the state of the weather. It is much to be regretted, as the Pahiatua people -both private and the Borough Council-had made arrangements'for a big tree planting, the Borough Council providing no less than (8 frames for the protection of trees on Main Street alone, The side streets —bb well as the Island Domain—were all arranged to be planted. A very successful concert' and dance was held at Mangatsinoka the other eyening, in aid of the Band Fund, and I understand it was.financiallyasiicce.'s. During an interval aMr Harbot took the oppoi tunity of introducing Mr Carlisle, of Woddville, whom he much eulogised. 1 fail to see wlrat connection Mr Carlisle had with the affair, but I presume that like the Pork Industry, all tliese little attentions are oalculated to endear Mr 0. with the electors before nejit November.
