The Direct leto, (By Tele graph—Own Correspondent). Wellington, Thursday. The galleries wero crowded last night to hear Sir Robert Stout move his Licensing Act, 1881, Amendment Bill, Direct Veto. Great interest was taken in the proceedings. Sir Robert Stout in opening spoke brilliantly, Mr Fish ■ stonewalled with pertinacious loquacity for nearly five hours. The opponents of the measure were determined not to allow a division being reached lost night, and they were equally successful as the debato continued . through the night, and the House adjourned at eight a,m, thin morning, everyone being thoroughly worn out. Sir R. Stout's supporters hoped to force a division by refraining from speaking, but Mr Fish and others amply supplied the deficiency. The non-prohibitionist party will strain every nerve when the Bill comes up again.
