THE FIRE AT LANGDALE.
Inquest (From Our Own Correspondent). 1 Mr T. Hutchison, Coroner, held an inquest on Friday last, in the Public Hall, Tinui, regarding tho circumstances attending the recent fire «t Pino Spur House, owned by Messrs Elder Bros. Tho jury were Messrs [ A. Hancock (foreman), A. Niebolla, senr., S. Holes, B, Mnnnering, 11. McAlpine, and J, Young, After on exhaustive hearing, in which the evi- , dence was very conflicting, the jury , found an open verdict, as thero was i not sufficient evidence ns to the origin i of tho fire, The whole circumstances j connected with the fire seems wrapped in mystery, as no one appeared to , have bonn on the premises when the i fire broke out. A nmn named Lea, , blacksmith and carpenter, of the , Taueru, had been engaged packing furniture in the house, for removal to Otaki, He was seen going to the i house about an hour and a quarter previous to the fire being noticed, but in his evidence he explained his move- , ffionts to the satisfaction of the jury.
