ACCIDENTAL SHOOTING.
A Baby's Queer Plaything. A most remarkable instance of the danger arisingfrom the careless manipulition of firearms occurred in Wellington last night (says the N.Z. Times,) Mrs Donaldson, wife of a iitiior, residing at 85, Arthur Streot, was sitting in one of tho rooms of iho house with two of her sisters(the Missesßowater)and aMissMcElwain who were spending the evening with her during her husband's absence, Mrs Donaldson's baby, a child only a few months old, was being nursed by its mother, and for a plaything had been given a small six-chambered 1 Bulldog' revolver, Mrs Donaldson took tbo dangerous toy from the infant, and, thinking it not to bo loaded, snapped it several times in the direction of the window. ' No discharge followed, whereupon Miss McElwain, Baying 'Give it to me, I'll have a shot,' took the weapon from her, and pointed it in the direction of the door. Unfortu- 1 natoly the chamber ou which the hammer fell happened to bo loaded, , and Mißs Minnie Bowater, who was coming along the passage at the time, received a bullet in her jaw, Mounled-Conatables Healey and Wilson, who were riding past, heard the discharge, and went inio the house, where tlioy rendered such assistance as was in their power. Dr Mackin was at once sent for, and found that the bullet had gone through the cheek, struck the jawbone, and pnssed out below tbo chin. The bullot was subsequently found on the floor in tho passage, The injured woman was, by Dr Mackin's orders, taken to the hospital, where her wound was attended to, and latest advices are that she is doi' g fairly well. revolver, which is o( common make, belonged to Mr Donaldson. When the police wore making enquiries into tho affair another revolver was found on a table in the same room, but this was broken, and therefore harmless. rjIHEYALL SAY SOI Gen.Hurus Ixoalis, Quartermaster-Gen-eral United States Army: "St Jacobs Oil is the best pain curer ever used."
