THE TOTALISATOR TAX. The Colonial Secretnry, replying to ilio Hon E. Hart, said bookmakers unending race meetings did not pay a liconso to the Government, The amount arising from tbo tax on the totalisator for the financial year ended March 81 last was £IO,BOOO llsOd.

B, A, Acland the Colonial Secretary said a now staff of rabbit inspectors had been appointed in the MoEenzie Country, and strict instructions had beon given them to carry out thoir duties. If (hat were done it was hoped the rabbit plague would be abated. REPRESENTATION ACT AMENDMENT •BILL. This Bill was put through final stages without debate. COMPANIEB BBANCn REGISTER ACT AMENDMENT BILL. This Bill ivas put through Committee without amendment, and was subsequently read the third time and passed. PAYMENT OF MEMBERS ACT AMF.NDMBNT BILL, Before the Council went into coinmittee on this Bill, the Colonial Secretary said be should endeavour after the Bill left the Council to impress upon his colleagues tho necessity and justiceof the representations which had been made by tho Council with regard to deductions for absence. He did not think the Council orthe House would ask for retrospective legislation, but he would see if anything could be done with regard to making the provisions of tbußill apply to the ueivlynp|iointed members, who hud been made tho victims of an imperfect law, The Bill then passed through committee and its final stages without amendment. Tho Council then rose.

House of Hepresentatiues. FRIDAY, JULY 14. LICENSING AOT AMENDMENT BILL, Sir Robert Stout introduced the Licensing Act 1881 Amendment Bill, which was read a first timo. The House was then occupied until adjournment with the debato on the Financial Statement. (
