WAIRARAPA NORTH COUNTY COUNCIL.

MonthlyMeetinm

The regular monthly meeting of the Wairarapa North County Counoil Was held yesterday afternoon. Pre-sent-Crs von Kedin (in the chair), MaunselLHandysic'e.Sthckey, Guild, B. Smith, Groves, and CookburnHood.

MINUTES. The minutes of the last meeting were read aud confirmed. '

CORRESPONDENCE Correspondence inwards was dealt with as follows :-From J. MoCalmont asking on what grounds Cr Handyside blames bim in the construction of the culvert at Aohonga. Cr Handyside said he thought that the matter had been fully gone into at the last meeting. The only other additional particulars he had learned was that the Board had been charged for 21 days work aB put in on the Aohonga Hill which was really time put in on the culvert. He had never, authorised the culvert. -It was resolved to write to Mr McCalmont to this effect. MATAIKUNAROAD. From 0. F, Johnston, making . formal application for authority to repair the County road through the Matsikuna Station whenever necessary.

Cr Handyetde proposed that a permanent roadman be appointed to look after the Akitio The motion was carried. OABILEPOINT ROAD. From the Cashpoint Road Board with reference to repairs to the road from Tinui and Whakataki, and culling attention to the bad state of some portions of it. A letter from Mr 'I P. Smith complaining that the metal bad been laid in the wrong places was also forwarded by the Board.

Cr Maunsell said dissatisfaotion had been expressed by some of the ratepayers, and ho had communicated with Mr McUalmont, whose replies showed that he had taken trouble to find out where it was wished that tho money be expended, and what portions of the road it 'was most advisable to metal. It was resolved to, forward Mr McUalmont's replies to the Cashpoint Road Board,

Johnston stating that bo bad just visited Oastlepoint and did not eoo any ocoasion for the proposed deviation of tho road, or diversion of the stream, and fluggeßtri ~ ing that a larper culvert be puy>^"fc r '*~ The Engineer's Johnsion's letter were unfavourably Mr Jobuston's suggestion. Cr Maunsell said that by running the culvert straight across the road there would be some danger of cutting right across Mr Johnston's pad. dock.

It was decided that the engineer be instructed to explain to Mr Johnston why it was proposed to divert the Btream, THE KAIWHATA ROAD. From RE. Tathara offering to give the necessary land for the Home-wood-Kaiwbata road unconditionally, except that tbe line be taken along the terrace near the house on tho west of the Wainuioru creek, and endosing copy of agreement with the Government regarding the land required for the Kaiwhato road. Mr Stuokey moved and Mr Smith seconded that a copy of Mr Tatham's letter be sent to the Governmenl.Carried, CHARITABLE AID. The Chnirmun of the Horowhenua County Council (Mr J. Kebbell) wrote regarding the United Charitable Aid Board's levy, and suggesting a conference of dflegates from the various bodies to discuss tbe question, j«The Chairman considered Mrkjbell's suggestion that a held, a good one, and he would move that Mr Kebbell suggest a day to meet,

Mr Stuckoy said he would second the motion if all contributing bodies and the delegates from the different Benevolent Societies wore iucluded in tho conference. This course was adopted and the motion was carried, It was decided that the Clerk inform tho other local bodies that it was proposed to pay the Charitable Aid Board's amended demand. ALFItEDION ROAD BOABD, The Alfredton Road Board forwarded the following resolutions passed at the last meeting :--That the unexpended balance and Mangaone Road over to tho Eketahuna Road Board, and that the insurance on the Road Board office bo kept up after the district is merged into tho Wairarapa North County. Other resolutions affecting the alterations of boundaries and transfer of properties between Alfredton and Eketahuna were also read. ALTERATION TO HOUKDABIES. Letters were read with reference to the suggested alterations to boundaries between the Eketahuna, Mauriceville, and the Upper Taoeru Road Boards, the former objecting. It was decided to refer the Mauricevillo Road Board's letter consideration, and to defer the question of merging the Alfredton County until next meeting. lIOBOKOKO. Messrs Levin and Co. wrote, stating that they could not reduoe the rental of the Rorokoko Reserve un- ' til the expiration of the when the firm would renewtbe lease' and reduce the rent from £7 to £5 per annum, TOLL, ' H. Rhodes and W. Neville, rangers, were granted permission to pass through tbe Tawaitai toll gate free, FINAKOIAL BEPORT. Tho recommendation of the Engineer, ro drain on the road near Newman School, was approved. The report was then adopted, subject to tbafcrogoing resolutions, Tho Clerk was instructed to tako Steps to make the County Footpaths By-law good. AGRICULTURAL BILLS, Ora Guild, von Redin, Stuckey, and Smith were appointed a committoo to examine and report on tho Noxious Weeds and Stock Bills, The meeting then adjourned.
