The Spanish Navy has opened a fund for the assistance of the rela* tives of those drowned.. Telegrams of sympathy have been received from all parts of the world. It is now stated that 20 officers and 818 men were drowned,
The Prince of Wales and family . have subscribed £l5O to the relief fund oponed by tho Lord Mayor, tho Queen has given £2OO. Lord MountStephen gives £IOO, and donations aro flowing in freely. Similar fundg are being organised in all parts of (lie kingdom. Many inoidents are recorded of grand and touching heroism on the part of tho officers in attempting to save men, and on tho other hind many of the officers saved owe their lives to the heroio efforts of those under them. The rescuing boats wero compelled - : to be exceedingly careful, on account: of the under-tow, otherwise: many oth'-rs would have been saved.;/ The survivors leave Malta to-day fpr England, . His body has boen sent to England. Tho Emperor of Germany has sent a message of condoleuco to Lndy Tryon, in which ho s<iys, " My navy deplores the loss of a brilliant life."
