Mu W. Lowes has been again impressed into the service of the | Masterton Pastoral Association to extricate its affairs out of the condi-, lion of muddle into which they have' drifted, and we anticipate that he will soon bring them into good working order. We may say of the late Seoretary, Mr Gayfer, that we regard him as a very honest man, hut consider that he is more at home in the saddle than at a desk. He also appears to be unduly susceptible to outside influence, and to have been misled by interested parties into authorising preposterous extravagances, The sum paid for certificates appears now to have been £l2 10s instead of £7 10s, as was at first reported. We fancy an expenditure of n pound or thirty shillings ought to have met this requirement. If other transactions have beeu conducted with a similar lavishness, the present impecunious condition of tho Association is quite accounted for,
