FOOTBALL.
The New Zealand Team. The match to take place next Wednesday at I'etone between the Wellington representatives, including the local contingent in the New Zealand team should result in a splendid contest, particularly if tho weathor is fine. Tho selection I committeo of the New Zealand Rugby Union, being desirous of seeing all tho members of tho team pliy, have offered tho services of Butlnnd (West Coast) and A, Good (Taranaki), both backs, to the Wellington Union, hut the suggestion does not meet with tho approval of local players or the selection committeo of the Wellington Onionanditisunders-ood that the lattor desire that tho Wellington team should conjist entirely of local players, The tna-ch would certainly bo robbed of its representative character if tho two outside players wero allowed to play for Wellington, and it 1a quite certain that the general interest in tho match would not he so great, The opinion hos been freely pressed that the local team, which should be ono of the flaunt combinations Wellington has ever put intu the field, will be more than a match for the New Zealand team, but, of course, this remains to be proved, Suohamatch would certainly out the weaknesses of the New Zealand committee's selection especially as several of the disappointed aspirants on the Wellington Bide mean to 'make things hum.' Tho Times suggests that the Welling" ton team bo selected from the following: —Full-back, Wilson; three-quarters, Bakor, Wynyard and Roberts; halves, Gage, Wynyard or Baumber; forwards, Ellison, Btuart.Pringle, MoLean, White, Oliphant, Hyland, Bishop, Kelly and A. Campbell. The team to represent New Zealand will bo as follows i-Full-back, D'Arcy (Wairarapa); three - quarters, Jervis (Auckland), Bayly (taranaki). Harper (Nelson); halves, Herrold and Elliott (Auckland); forwards, Hiroa (Hawke's Bay), KcKenzie (Wairarapa), Mowlem and Cockroft (Manawatu), Gardiner and Macintosh (Sonth Canterbury), Murray and Spreight (Auokland), mid Lambio (Taranaki), Arrangemonta are being made for special trains on the Manawatu and Masterton lines, so as to give the country i peoplo a o'lanco of sioing the match, A publio half-holiday wiil also be declared. The Management Committee decided last night to assist tho Now Zealand Union in making tho match as great a success as possible. < CuMSTonuROH, June 14, , A general meeting of tho Canterbury £ Rugby Union was held to-night, Mr A, , E. G, Rhodes, the president, in the chair. | All the principal olubs' in. Canterbury '] were represented. It was decided by a large majority not to play the annual e matoh with South Canterbury; also that 110 club affiliated to tho Canterbury Rugby Union should bo allowed to play any club affiliated with the N,Z, Rugby Union. The lattor motion was oarried bv • 19 to 11.
