THEATRE ROYAL

The Gondoliers,

The Masterton season of Pollard's Liliputian Opera Company concluded last evening with Gilbert and Sullivan' s most tuneful work " The Gondoliers." The hall was crowded in every part with a very demonstrative audience, There is little doubt but what this was by far tho best piece produced here, and each one of the principals came in for round after round of applause, Almost evory solo was encored, and the choruses were in every case re-demanded, From start to finish the audience seemed thoroughly in sympaihy with the players, the opinion being expressed on all sides that nothing has yet been staged in Masterton to beat last night's performance of " The Gondoliers." Master Alf Stevens as the" Duke of Plaza Toro'' was intensely funny, the rest of the comedy business being admirably carried out by Master Harry Quealy as the" Grand Inquisitor." Miss Mo. \V\lson," Lui?;," Mjes Mitchell, Miss Wty, Miss Lilly lyargit, Miss May Beatty, Miss L. Stephens and Miss Flo. Russell, all call for very special mention for their graceful acting and the way in which they sustained their parts. Every one of the minor characters \?as also most ably filled que) from begining to end flit fj single hitch of any jtjnd pccnrred, Pressure on our space prevents a more detailed description of the performance, suffice to say that the audisnce received a treat quite beyond their expectations.
