THEATRE ROYAL.
Pollard's Liliputian Opeia Company, The Masterton Theatre Bayal was well filled last night, when the above Company gave their opening performance. The visit of Pollard's Libpinions has been looked forward to for a long time by all who care to nee mid hear something really good, and ttinse present last evening could not help Wing more than satisfied. The piece produced was tlm favorite opera "La Muscotte," and it certainly proved a signal success, From beginning to end it was received with demonstrative applause, The mounting, costumes and accessories, were certninly amongst the best we have ever seen in this town, From beginning to end the pieco received an intelligent and pmiißWortby interpretation, every chaincter being sustained, most faithfully, and the songs and choruses being produced with telling effect, Tbo evolutionary ballet, in the third acl, was remarkably clever, and called for the round after round of applause. Unlucky King Laurent was pourtrayed in a very clever manner by Master Alf Slovens, who with "Iiocco" (Master llarry Quealy), contributed some wonderiul comedy business, which simply liopt the audience in a bubble of merriment. Mien Maud Beatty, as Prince Frettilini, acted admirably, and obtained a deserved encore in the solo" Love is Blind." Miss Mai ion Mitchell, as "Pippo," made a charming shepherd, and with Miss Lily Everett (" La Mascotte") came in for a perfect ovation, pa. ticularly in the "GluQlu" duet, Miss EverettV dancing being also remarkably clever. MifS Lily Stephens, who took the character of Princess Fiametta, carried out her part to peifection, acting and singing gracefully. Miss Lily Mowbray, as Bianca was very good, end the minor characters were carefully filled. The various groupings call for a lot of praiße, and prove Mr Tom Pollard, who arranged them, to be a perfeot genius. Hecalls were frequent during the evening,' and the ourtain had to be raised after each act, The company has its own orchestra, and this adds very conside/ably to the success of the opera. To-nigb t the "Mikado"—considered by many people to bs Gilbert and Sullivan's most enchanting work—will be produced, and we feel sure that all who can possibly manage, will take the opportunity of witnessing this pretty o|j^, >' !
