The ladies of Masterton are to be I congratulated. • upon the; thorough i 'sucoesß of' their efforts iii aid of the 3 Mustortun .Hospital,,, for the,/ Ball 3 which took place last night was tmj doubtedljr the largest mid most bril--3 liantgatheVin'gof-the'kiiid.'ever held i iivMasterton; The Drill Hall pro'i Scrited a.particularly gay and festive t 'appearance, tho walls being huhg'witlr 1 drapery, and gay with all the _ frigs f arjd banners in ' the town; Several i mirrors aided the decorations j very materially and by clever ; arraugenicrits produced ~'a. very . pleasing clleot.AlthoughthelargeHall .' was so full, with care' enjoyable dano- . ing could be had, and by the. efforts , of such Capable and efficient M.O.'s i as Messrs W. Lowes, 0. A. Pownall, i W.;b\ Oroxtonnnd Dr'. A. Douglas i everyone was kept in good humour; , and in fact "all wont merry as a i marriage bell." An excellent pro> . gramme was efficiently played by Mr -U. Clifford's Orchestra, a number, of extras being emitiihuted by MiSsAni (lereon, Jlias L-iwes, Misa Cani'Ton i and Mr Archer Bunny. As regards the i; supper tab'es. they simply groaned . under the alinmbinci' of good ; things ; provided, and although many of llioso i present were by no menus light on.the i delicacies, witli. an utter disregard for ; nightmares and dyspepsia, returning 1 again and again to the' onslaught, I there was still« very large I of tho refreshments left over when r the gathering broke up, The surplus ■ w«s put up to auction at 2 o'clock this | afternoon,, by Messrs Lowes and . loriis, and helped to swell the grand > total of the. m'slit's takings, Tho \ tables were presided over by several of ■ the ladies of the Management Cotii- , mittee, and as hII did their best, it would be invidious to' single • anyone out for spscial mention. The gathering of last evoning certainly proved that these things can be managed—and managed exceptionally well lobby ladies, for a more thoMU.ehly bar monious public has never taken place in this town.'
