FOOTBALL.
North v, South, [By Damocles.] The North v. South representative practice, arranged by the Union to be played at Carterton on Saturday, did not eventuate, owing to the South team failing to put in an apposranco. The North team travelled from Masterlon, and were disgusted to find their opponents had not .turned up. No word was reoeived from the Greytown contingent, of any reason, even football courtesy being utterly ignored, An enquiry should certaiuly, be made , by the Union inVthe matter, as this is the second rep. practice the Greytown men have been absent from, The least they could have done was to let the Masterton team know their intention before they went to the expense of hiring a conveyance.
An excellent practice was held by the players on the ground, and some fine individual play shown. D'Aroy, Thompson, Hudson, T. Welch, and W. Day were very conspicuous for their dashing play. Watson had the misfortune to hurt his collar-bone, but it is not thought seriously.-' Star.2nd.u, Greytown 2d

For the Stars, Wrigley, Galloway, Gieen and Eenall in the.hacks; and McKensie, Fred Dorset, Cotter and Wellington in the forwards fought well for honour, whilst' for Greytown, Smith, Brunton, Oliver,A.Beard, and Humphries' were tho best, Mr W, Thomas acted as referee, and Robinson and Udy lino umpires, The Greytown spectators wero, as usual, when these teams meet, lost to all sense of fair play, and the visitors were coutinually being hooted and hissed by a crowd of "hoodlums," who know no better.
