The Reu-L. M.'lsitt and the Drink Traffic,
TliftEovL. M. Isilt, whoso.visit to Masterton baa been looked forward to for 60mo time past, arrived on Saturday last, and yesterday evening addressed a very large audience at the theatre Royal. The Rev gentlnman baa lost none of n$W eloquence, and his powerful address based on St, Paul's appeal to the Corinthians to imitate the Belt sacrifice of the Macedonian Churches, "Not by way of command do I say it, but by means of other men's earnestness, .putting to the truth the genuineness of your love," was listened to with rapt attention. Tbo text was used to point out <tbe proper attitude of the Church to--wards the liquor traffic, With many striking illustrations from personal •obiervation, be described at length the terrible influence of strong drink upon both pew and pulpit, He also pointed out that orthodox religion was valueless, unless accompanied by a love for humanity sufficient to induce self-sacrifice on its behalf, and stated that he'believed it to be the doty of every true Christian ,to at least an example of total ab.Btaiu-
onoo, and to Help to sweep tlm liquor away. Gambling and 'other evila were so allied with the traflio that no half measures would do. To-night Mr Isitt lectures in the Theatre Royal, and wo may expect to soo tho house packed.
