THEATRE ROYAL.
Mr Claphm's Health Mission, The scries of entertainments given in connection with Mr Olapham'a Health Mission in Maslerton, commenced last night at the Theatre Royal, and proved to be one of the best variety entertiinmentß ever pnt on is this town, Mr Thornton, the business manager, opened by oxpluia* ing the objects of the mission,'and announced the fact that proceeds of tho performances fHer and above actual expenses) would go towards the fond for aiding the sick poor, ana enabling (hem to take advantage of Mr Glapbam's renowned treatment. The programme provided was of a lengthy character, and tho numerous encorei dearly testified to the appreciation of the various items, Miss May Travers, an old favorite in Masterton, received a very hearty reception, and soon proved that she had lost none of her versatility. Her songs were rendered with marked effect, and repeated applause. The first part <if the programme was a medly entitled ".The Picnio Party," in which soma highly ridiculous situations were introduced, Mr Harry Cowaa fairly bringing down the house with bis funny business, while the dancing of Miss Daisy Thornton was really excellent. Messrs Arthur Lovell and Olaude Hermann were *jf both heard to advantage in songsM suited to them, aud received well merited applause. Hiss A, Montrose as "Harry's mother from Ireland" sustained her part well, "id in company with Arthur Lovell kept the fun going. In the opening an excellent chorus was rendered by the band of nnrses, who were accompanied on the stage by a huge St Bernard dog. In [be second part, solos and duets were a skirt, dance'by entertainment wse brought to a close ■ by a most laughable farce, the characters being sustained by Miss May Travers, Mr Hurry Cowan, and Mr Claude Herrmann. Owing to the fact that no programmes were available we are unable to give thenamoEr of tbe songs aung by each performer, but suffice to say the entertainment, was a very good one of its kind, Alt' the accompaniments were faultlessly played by Mr W. Melvin.who proved: his undoubted ability as a pianist.
