QUEEN'S BIRTHDAY.
The principal fixture ior Queen's Birthday ib the Wairarapa Hunt Club's Sports to be held in Messrs Lowes k lorns' grounds, Masterlon. There are only six events on the programmo, but these will tax tho energies of the mananeraent to get them 08, and things will be kept going lively tho whole afternoon, There will be jump, in all the events except the tilting, and this latter always attracts a large field, The sports open with the Dismounting Hurdle Competition, in' wliioli the competitor has to jump several hurdles, dismounting between each, The evontgives an opening for the display of splendid horsemanship •nd athletic activity, and will be« very interesting exhibition. The next is the Ladies Trophy (Needlo Threading Competition), This ia particularly interesting to the fair sex, and it will depend on their cleverness in threading needles, who will win, The needles will not be too large, nor the thread too small, so that it will need a cool head and a steady hand to make the beat time, The Jumping Competition irill be very similar to what we usually have at our Pastoral shows, and as tho prizes are liberal the field for itissuro to bo a largo one, The Cigar and Umbrella Competition wil\ provide any amount of fun.
