An enquiry as to the cause of the deatruotiou by fire of Mr MJaxton's late store and dwelling house, on the 11th inst.,wußheldattlieM, Court, Greytown, yesterday. The evidence, which lasted the whole of the afternoon, was heard by Mr T. Hutchison (Coroner), and the following jury : J.D. Heagerty(foreman) H.Dudding, W. H. Lay, Benton, J. JRea, and Pownall,

The following witnesses were examined :—Miss Collierand Messrs W. Harris and F, Jones (employes), Mr 0. Fabian (Salvage Captain), Mr F. H.Wood (Salvage Valuer), W.Max, ton (owner), and Messrs M. Maxton and E, H. Trotman. The following verdict was returned " That no evidence of the origin of tho Baid fire doth appear to the said jury "with a rider "That this jury is of opinion that Mr Maxton is a loser by the fire."
