Tho annual pionio iu conneotioei with the Bastwell school was held in the eobool grounds on Wcdnnday last, Although the weather tias not fine there was a good attendince of botn young and old, At'llo'clock tte children commenced with tho usual games, under tho supervisioa-trtjbft Pionio Comhiitt'co and tnaoheriJUk' at 1 o'clock sat down to capital spread whioh was done full justice lo; after which the older peop'o par'ook of tho. nice things whioh had be«n carefully selected by Miss Wilkinson (head tei*cher). Next came the hoys radginV races, with MeLsrs H. Larsen and L, Larsenas handicapper and starter and Mr L. Johnston, jnr., as judge, About 8.16 p.m. heavy skowers began to fa'l and the children Rejourned totho inner schoolroom, where i moat. pleasant afternoon was spent. Miss; Wilkinson and Mr Hopkins took upo» thomselvruhokskof amusing the. children and succeeded admirably, Tho children listened nith rapt at-v tention to the delightful faiiuafeonfsi from Miss Wilkinson and JfrW kins. In the other room Mjst Maokay Mm Pratt and Mrs wero conspicuous iu their efforts to keep •.e older folks amused with all the. most popular games. „. Tea ™, s . th6DKt »»«ta, after which! Miss Wilkinson distributed prizes as-, follows :-Dux: of scliool, Hinemo* Bray; Standard V-ljt prize, GeorgeElliott; Standard IV-Neliioßlliott: Standard in-Emilßwensen; BtanStandard I John Madsen. Special cewing prizes were given by Miss Wilkinson as fol'ows: Ist, (writing cace) Bertha, Bweosen; 2nd, (lady's companion) Mary Christersen; /. Brd, inkstand Annie Isaksen, • Miss Wilkinson has endeared her«!f to the sohool children by the kincl'.y interest'she, eve,r takes on
their wolfare, and desorres great oreilit for tho high state ol offioienoy which this sohool has roaoliod, Miss Wilkinson is ably agisted by Miss Mackay, whose kindly unassuming maunor has made het very popular with young and old, Miss Jans Larson, Miss Pratt, Mrs AlcOaffery, Mrs MoFaddon, Mrs Pratt, and Messrs H, Larsen, junr, 'Lars Larson, Faulkner, L. Larson, junr, and L. Johnstoue, junr, wero assiduous in tho'ir effort? to make everything pssa off pleasantly, and a pleasant day was brought to a close at 8 o'clock^.
