THE PREMIER'S FUNERAL.

An Impressive Scene. (By Telegrftpli.—Preas Association,

Wanoahui, Monday. The remains of tho late Premier were interred yesterday, In the presence of a great concourse of people; The ceremony was a Maaonio one, and over forty Lodges were represented. A speoial and funeral train from Wellington arrived shortly after three, and by that hour there was with difficulty standing room obtained on Taupo Quay, near the railway station, A special train from Napier also brought a full complement of mourners from Hawke's Bay. Among the passengers by the Wellington train were Capt Hunter Blair and Mr Clayton (representing the Govornor), the whole of the Ministers, Sir Robert Stout, the Speakers of both Houses, and a large number of M.H.R.'s and M.L.O.'s. The funeral cortege wrb the largest ever seen in Wauganui, At the head of the procession were tho firin? party (members of the Permanent Artillery), the Warjganui Garrison Band, Wanganui Town Band, and the Otaki Native Band. Then came the gun carriage with the coffin, Tho burial ceremony at the grave was performed by the Rev. A. 0. Williams, P. 0.5,, of Tongariro Lodge, assisted by other Brothors. The Maaonio apron and emblem of purity Were deposited at the grave, after which the benediction was pronounced. The firing party consisted of 280 men, A great number of wreaths were sent; the Fire Brigade ladder being coveted with them.
