When Mr Soobie Mackenzie's turn came to review the action of Ministers we did not anticipate that he would let them off too cheaply, but we hardly expected that he 'would have denounced them in such plain and vigorous terms as he has employed in hia Uaseby address. The following is the Press Association summary of bis speech : At Nasehy Mr Scobie Mackenzie made a scathing attack on tha Ministerial policy, which, he said, was a downright in> poßture from beginning to end, for the | most part practised on the working chases, and therefore the nrnat odious kind of imposture, Minister had silently abandoned the burstinp-up policy and Sulked of their policy as one of purchase for settlement. The Le-piilativo Council appointments were another imposture. In order to get 9?ght of their special friends into the Council, Ministers hid mixed with them a sprinkling of so-called Labour representatives. They were afraid to put In real Labour representatives, and chote perfectly colourless men who had never lifted hand or voice for their fellow men in their lives. The wholo bu»ioe<9 was one of the most fla&.-ant scandals ever perpetrated in the Colony. The Cheviot purchase called for the strictest enquiiy by Parliament, a* a staggering price had been given for the estate. The Ministerial statements about the prosrew of settlement and the reduction of the public dobt were similar impostures, and bed the latter been made by the directors of a Melbourne banking company, he would not like to sty where they would bo now. The whole fabric was built on a foundation of imposture, and the superstructure ment credit for keeping a tighter hand over the purse than had been expected. The Colony »n slowly recovering by a steady rise of its productions over the expenditure, The speaker received an enthusiastic vote ol confidence. Tho sting of the criticism lies in its truth. Ministers have deceived the people, and in due time they mast suffer the penalty of their? crime. When Mr W. H, P. Eeeve3 admitted that they had set class against class, he himself condemned them by hia own mouth. When Mr Cadman, for political purposes, prostituted the administration of justice in New Zealand, by the appointment of incompetent persons to judicial positions, he betrayed the trust reposed in him. When Mr Sneddon, to plsasa tbo people, instituted a abam co-operative system of labour, he misled the men who trusted in him. When Ministers pretended to ninko pavings in the public expenditure, which were sever really effected, hut were only hjfcveon paper, they deceived the publio, and they still: keep :op the. deception by withholding or postponing settlements of acsounto, so that their actual liabilities remain imdis- < closed. At.a time when trade hag rs- < vived and produce' commmands is- } rauaerativo prices throughout the ' country, there are more destitute per- i sens in receipt of alms than hays ever : been inpwh before in the colony. By tho San Francisco mail Mr George lishor has receivedJrgm a business man rn Belfast a letter 'which contains the following items of news for dairy farmer* and cheese factories :—" If yon can get the dairy companies or farmers to pack fresh and salt butter, which must be well ftnd cleanly made, and carefully packed, I could get a splendid business for it in Scotland and here. A friend of my own, who is (he largest importer of sheep and batter in Scotland, sends to one firm In Copenhagen an average of j£B,ooo a week all the year round. If you would get packed from two or tbree of your best dairies a sample of, aay, lib each of fresh and salt butter, packed in eartheawaie jars, Euch as are used for preserves, and those carefully packed in a wood bos, or tin biscuit box, the latter would ensure the baiter not being tainted with the resin or other substance hi the wood, I would see what could be dons with them her© end m Scotland. My friend supplies the beat buyers in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Leith and Aberdeen. Thecheeseraakeracoatd also send samples. It is a cash trade, so your friends in New Zealand run no risk of making bad debts. After samples arrive, if quality is found to be good, a regular badness by each steamer could be arranged. The Canadian and United States dairymen give my friend their best produce, because he pays Id per lb above the highest price in each market per week, but he wants more butter from anywhsre, provided it is beet quality." A special meetiag or the Loynl Maaterton Lodge, 1.0.0. F., M.TJ., was held in the Lodge Boom, Perry-s&reet, on' Saturday evening last. There was a good attendance of members and visitors, including Bro. Kershaw (Wellington). P. 0.8. ; and Bro. Loasby, P.P.D;G,M, (Greytown); both of whom addressed the Lodge 0 n the advantages of the Order, and expressed the hope that Loyal Maaterton would again take its old position as one of the premier Lodges in the district. It tested with the members themselves to accomplish this, and with a little energy they would succeed, especially as the Lodge was in such a good financial position. The followinn officer* were then installed by Bro. Kershaw, Acting Grand Master; N.G., Bro. J. Morriii, junr.; Y.U., Bro. Allen ; P.S., Bro. A. Mioifie; 8.5., Bro. Jeasen • Supporters, Bro. W. If any illegal ob* struction is offered he intends to take arm measures to put it down.
