On Friday last, ; in splendid weather, tho Whakataki school In Id its annual picnio. It iB usual for the Tehui and Whakataki schools to. give invitations to enoh other, and several.
scholars of the former accompanied by. tbeir parents, friends, and teacher; Mr. Joplin, attended. The Committee:— 11 essrs McHutchon *■'' (chairman), Murray, Dunn, Holmes, and Stewart were ably assisted by Messrs.Southey. (Tenui) and Joplin in providing games and races, etc,, for the youngsters, who thoroughly enjoyed' tliemsnlves. Tho largo store, .kindly lent by Mr Holmes, manager ; of. Castlepoint Station, was utilised as a re-
freshment room. In the evening, old and young, natives and pakehas, danced merrily until the'morning to the strains of a piano (kindly lent, by Mr Holmes) and a violin. For some unknown reason the prizes were not to hand) but they will bo distributed ;at an early date. At the recent school' examination tho following passed Standard VII;. —Elizabeth Dunn, Standard-Vl. Maud Holmes. Standard V.—Alice Pottier and Jno, O'Kano, - Standard IV.—Agnes Dunn and Wm. Fellows,' Standard lll,—May Fellows. /Standard ll.—Lucy Pottier. Standard I,r-r Fanny Power, Bertie Pottier Matthew Dunn. The [ prize was awarded to Fanny McHut. chon, and tbo Sewing prizes to (1) McHutchon, (2) Fanny Power;
