MASTERTON SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
Monthly Meeting. The usual monthly meeting of the Masterton School Committee was held last evening there being present —Messrs E. Feist (Chairman) Z. M. Hour, W.G. Beard. W. M. Easthope, W. Pragnoll, and 0. E. MINUTES. The minutes of the last meeting were rend and confirmed, rREASURER's ™9tt^jS; The Treasurer (Mr W. Fella?) &' ported a credit balance at date of £8 1b 64 correspondence. From the taotary of the WeN lington Education Board, stating that the question of an additional olass room for tho Masterton School will ba considered at the next meeting of the Board. Prom same informing the Committee that Lois McGregor has been appointed assistant teacher by the Board, and asking the Committee to confirm the appointment. From same stating nil Scbal,Committee accounts would jJMpe be audited, • ™"~ NEW TEACHER. Mr Daniell proposed and Mr Feist seconded that theappointment of Miss Lois MoGregor be confirmed. Mr Beard moved as an amendment that Miss McGregor's appointment be not confirmed until the committee ba informed what steps are to be taken with regard to Miss Munro's position at the school. Mr Easthope seconded. Ho thought tho committee should be consulted, Mr Daniell thought they only had to deal with the appointment of a new teacher. Miss Munro waa already on the staff. Mr Feist regretted that there should be any division on the matter, be» • cause they naturally Mj£oedTh"a't C - Miss Munro had been pronißfc---—. Mr Beard said his only reason for * moving the amendment was that he considered tho Committee should bB consulted as to the exaot position of all toachors appointed, Mr Daniell said he understood they were not supposed to enquire into the qualifications of toachors, but merely into their moral character. On a division being taken tho amendment was lost and the motion carried. Mr Easthope moved that the Com. mitten draw the Board's attention to the fact that the Committee had not been consulted regarding the appointment of all the teacliere. The motion wbb not seconded. reports, The report of the Head Teacher was read, showing the number of ohildren on the roll to be 598 with an average atteadance of 488. • The report of Miss L. Keeling stated 100 ohildren were on the roll at the Infants Sohool with an aver* Bgo attendance of 88. RESOLUTIONS, It was resolved to accept tho lowest tender (Mr W. Pragnell's) for the supply of firewood.
