Ordinary Meeting,
The ordinary monthly meeting of the tVairarapa North County Council was held yesterday afternoon, Present : Crs MaunselljGroves,E.Smith, von Keden, Cockburn-Hood and.D, Guild. /#.' In the absenoe of Cr Maunsell was voted to the chair. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed, CORRESPONDENCE, The application of Messrs Vennell for a slaughtering license was ordered to be dealt with by the Clerk, •
An application was made by a number of settlers requesting that tho grade at Day's Hill be reduced, On the motion of Cr von Sedan, seconded by Cr Smith, the matter was referred to the Engineer to report, at next meeting,
From Mr Walsh, asking'tint his name be struck off tho 8011, and also that the Messrs E. and J, Wahh ba insorted for the same Bettler°ip tha Mangaono Survey Districtr^Wm The request was granted, subject/ to the rales owing boing paid before the alteration is made.
From the Benevolent Trustees, requesting that the Counoil appoint a member to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Mr Galloway. On the motion of Or von Reden, Cr D. Guild waßnppointed to filllhe vacancy, An account was presented from Messrs Bell, Gully and Izard for tho preparation of tho lease of the Karokoko cottage, and on the motion of Or Cockburn-Hood, seconded by Or Groves, tho account was ordered to be paid.
From John Swinson, applying for a grant of ten pounds for extra work in clearing clips, Referred to the Engineer to report, The application of the Upper Taueru Road Board for the adjustment of Boundaries with other local bodies was read, After some discussion it was resolved on tho motion of Or OockburnHood, seconded by Cr Guild, thattba Clerk write to the various Road Boards, suggesting tbat they should appoint delegates to a meeting to bo held on tho 7th June at 8 p.m., at the Council Chambers, to dtßoußß the question of boundaries, Mr Moore to act as Seoretary to the Conference, From Mr Gray, Secretary of the Mauriceville Road Board, applying for metal, Referred to the Railway Commissioners as the-smAiUtffe
power to grant tho From the Treasury, intimatmflffl tho Treasurer had approved theiSM of £250, being ten per oent. on loan of £2500 for tho. Eketahuna-Tenui Road. On the motion of Cr Smith the Olerk was instructed to draw up the certificate asked for, and to tako the necessary steps to strike a separate rate for this loan.
From Mr MoHutchon, clerk to the Castlepoint Eoad Board, ro certain metal put down on the taddle on the' Whakaiaki-Tenui road, and also aaking when the Cashpoint Road Board could get the use of the quarry at Tenui,
The Engineer said he had no knowledge of the matter,but lie understood the Overseer had put the metal where the coachdrivers and camera said the road was worst. At present there was no funds. -Eesolved that Mr McHutohon be informed that the Overseer had been guided by the carters where tho metal was most wanted, and that Or Maunscll and tho Engineer would appoint a day to visit the locality. Cr Cockburn-Hood applied for a sum of £s(l being granted towards tho melallingof portions of thoTe Ore OroBideiord Eoad, It was a country road and tho Eiding was (n credit. Tho metal was badly wanted and this wafl tho best timo of year to put it on. Cr Guild would liko to see this application held over till tho estimates for the year were being made. Cr Smith supported the proposal of Cr Cockburn-Hood,
The Chairman said ho saw no nsa in keeping tho money idle when the Biding was in funds.
Cr Guild said it was brought upas a catch and ought to bo left till tho estimates wore made.
On being put in tho form of a resolution tho application was granted, FINANCE. The report of tho Finance Committee and Treasurer's statement was read and adopted, The Engineer's report was read, ; Accounts amounting to were passed for payment. -^G Tho Engineer's report was adoptee' On tho motion of Cr CookburnHood, seconded by Cr von Reden, it was resolved to plant willows at the Waingawa river, and contirwo further protective works; also that the proposal to plant willows at tho Eoama» bunga be approved. The Engineer was authorised to expend the amount of tho vote available in painting the bridges that had most need of it,
Reßolvcd that Messrs J. E. Princo and RMcDonald be appointed inspectors under the wheellire by-law and that the Inspector of Police be jjfcedto allow the new constable at huna to undertake the severanHLkas inspector of wheel tires, tenses, etc, which Constable Roache performed for the Council.
Resolved that the Engineer be instructed not to take proceedings for any breaches of the wheel-tiro by-law during the approaching winter on thoae portions of the County roads in the Masterton Biding which were re» Heved from its operation in 1891. That the Clerk be instructed to replace Cr Cockburn-Hood'a resolution re local taxation on the order paper for the June meeting. That the Engineer be instructed to prepare the estimates fur 1893-4 before the Counoil at the meeting to bo held in May next. Cr Guild asked what steps the < Council proposed to tale to restore t»

The acting-chairman said that tbo amount bod been re-credited to the Toll Account, and tho riding would bo charged with n portion of tbo interest which might becomo payablo to the Bank from timo to tirao, or any overdraft which tho Council might find it necessary to incur, That the engineer be instructed to prepare estimates for reducing the grade on the Waimata Road opposite tho properties of Messrs F, and G.
