WESLEYAN CHURCH.

A representative of this journal yesterday, visited tho Mastertonl Wesleyan Church, in company with' the Rev Jno. Dukes, for the purpose of inspecting the alterations and additions lately made, These alteration are of such an important nature that ouo would hardly recognise the building as the same, and the Masterton Wesleyansaro now tobeoongrululuted, on possessing one of the nicest country churches in this Island. In the first place fifteen feet has been added to the leugthol the building, and a handsome rostrum thirty fret wide aud ten feet deep, lnis been eroe.ted, fronted with ornamental panel work in iron casting. Two handsome gates are hung on each side of a carved reading detk, chairs being arrange) for tho choir, with tho organ auaiust the buck wall. The effect when the. church is lighted, should be excellent. Tim floor of tho rostrum will be. covered with linoleum, and the aisles of the church with cocoanut matting. The square in front of the reading desk will also be covered with linoleum. Six engaged pillars support the roof, Thoy tiro done in imitation dovo and Italian marble and look very well indeed. The walls are painted lavender, with tho architraves a slightly darker shade, and the windows arc delicately frosted with the same colour. The front of rostrum and the lower portion of the walls are grained and varnished, the work being very tastefully done, The next and most noticeable alteration is the roof, which has now been ceiled with diagonal planking right through, and is suppored by eleven ornamental beams. Ventilators in tho shape of fretwork panels, in tho ceiling and oral ventilators in tbe walls make a very perfect system, and the placing of sliding doors in the roof, worked by ropes from the porch and rostrum, enable tho temperature to ho rogulated very easily. The church will be lighted by three pendants, each with eight burners. Tbe old brackets ou the wall will probably be dispensed with altogether. Tho seals have been grained ond varnished and iltered to a moro rodining position. They will be fixed to the floor to prevent their being easily moved, The exterior of the building has been painted a light stone color, the spire lead color, and the ridges In< dian red, The gable finishings and buttresses are of a darker shade than tbe body of the building, tbo window frames and sills being picked out in white, The school room has also beon painted and a shed, thirty feet long, will bo erected at the rear of the Church for horses.' Gates have been put up and a lot of levelling done, sc that alb vehioles will in future ontei at the back of the edifice.

The plot in front of the church am school, which has always presento such a barren appearance, is beinj nicely turfed, and troes are to b planted along the fence at tho prope season, Altogether tho improvements ar very considerable, and do great credi to the friends who have raised th money for a work so badly needed and alao to Mr 0. B. Daniell, to whoi the work was entrusted. The We! leyau Church is now as handsome an as" comfortable as any in Mastertw and the extra seating accommodatio should bo fully taxed as tbe Wes leyans area growing body in tho towi The Eov. Mr Dukes is now justl proud of his church, mid speaks in th highest terms of the way in which a tho work has been executed, W understand services are to bo hold i the church on Sunday next,
