PRESBYTERIAN SOCIAL AT PAHIATUA.
The Public Ml atPahiatua was crowded last evening, on the occasion of the farewell social given to Mr McKenzio, the gentleman who has had the spiritual oharge of the Presbyterian congregation of the district during the past six months, Among the visitors were Eevs. Paterson (Wellington), Wood (Masterton), Phillips and Ashcroft (Pahiatua), The chair was taken by Mr McKenzie, who said the object of tho meeting was to have a really sooial gathering of tho members of their church and of their friends, and lie expected tlioy would do all in their power to make it so. Mr MoEenzie's remarks were very cordially received, and the applause at the conclusion showed clearly that during his short stay in the district he had made himself alike popular and .w- -•*" uui ' n ' by his (Mm- 1 residents generally , lor a large number of persons belonging to other denominations had assembled to bid the clever young preacher farewell. The Reverend Mr Wood, and the Reverend Mr Paterson in their speeches paid the most flattering testimony to tho value of Mr McKenzie's services to the cause during his short stay in the district, and wished his every success in ' hie future career, Tho Pahiatua Choral Society, Misses Falla, Beswiek, Garrard, and Messrs A, W, Gould, Milue and others contributed materially to the success of tho evening's enjoyment, and a very largo number of ladies providod liberally, light refresh" monts for all present, Tho gathering, lit may be said, reflects the greatest credit on those who undertook it, and it will doubtless long continue a pleasant recollection to the gentlemen in whose honor it was given, Mr McKonzie, who leaves shortly for Edinburgh to complete his studies for the Min-istry,-Examiner,
