Deputation from the Prohibition League, A deputation from the Prohibition League, consisting of Messrs DotlgBhun ( vioe-prosidenl), John Nicol (secretary), Collins, A, R. Atkinson, A. J. Chisholm and E. Taylor, of Sydenham, waited upon Ihe Minister of Justioe (Hon A. J. Cndman) yesterday nr.rning to ask what action the Government propose to take with reference to' the present licensim; committee of the Sydenham district. The Minister replied that the Gov eminent were advised by the Crown law officers not to interfere in the matter. Tho recent division of the borough into wards necessitated tho creation of separate licensing districts for the various wards, and as a committee would therefore have to be elcoted for each of theso wards the functions of tho present Committee would have to be determined, Mr Taylor enquired when the ward licensing elections would lake place, and the Minister informed him that this matter rested entirety with the Borough Council, which would have to take the necessary steps as prescribed by statute. The deputation then (limited Mr Cudtnan and withdrew.—N.Z. Times.
