Ordinary Meeting. . Tho ordinary fortnightly meeting of the Maßterton Borough Connoil was held last evening, there being present Hia Worship tho Mayor (Mr 0, A. Pownall), and Councillors G. Heron. J. Hessey, T. Dixon, A. Mutrie, 5% Yates and E. Feist,'

From the Colonial Secretary acknowledging the reoeipk of £SO towards the Queensland Relief Fund, From the Maßterton ToawLands Trust stating that tho prepared to lease part of Town Aore 71 at £ls per annum for 21 years, for the ereotion of a Fire Brigade Station.

From Mr W.'PragneU complaining that during the recent floods his property had been considerably damaged by the overflowing of water caused through Mr Kmgdon obstructing a drain on his property, and requesting the Council to take Or Dixon moved and Or Heron seconded that the offer of the Town Lands Trust be referred to the Fire Brigades Committee' for consideration,

! . MR OHODON'S CULVERT. Cr Heron moved that Mr Kingdon v be written to, warning him that if hMtM continued to block the oulvert tho Counoil would take action. He had ascertained that the drain was a natural watercourse, ■ Cr Dixon said there had been s natural watercourse through Mr Kingdon'a property ever since Masterton had bean a town, He should like to see the matter brought to & head and would therefore Beoond the motion, • ' ■

The Mayor said that thoy oould not take action on Mr Prognell's let* ter, beoause they could not interfere with private matters, The blocking of the oulvett was, however, detrimental to the town as stopping the storm water, and on those grounds they could take action. He would suggest that the motion be altered to that the Borough officers be directed toremovothe obstruction whenever necessary. If Mr Kingdon considered he was suffering a wrong it would then be for him to take action.

Or Heron agreeing to the alteration to his motion, it was put and carried. The Mayor directed the Olerk to instruct tho Overseer to carry out this resolution.

STREET HOIKING, Or Dixon said his attention had been called to the fact that the street lamps were not lighted either on Monday or Tuesday evening, He had heard that there was a possibility of running short of coal, but he (Or I Dixon) did not think this was likely. I. The Olerk explained that ft waß unknown what damage was done to the line and it was considered advisable to husband the sup-ply of coal, The lamps would bo lit to-morrow. The Mayor said it was difficult to decide on tho proper course in an emergenoy. The manager was a practical man and had aoted for the best.

Or Hessey thought the precaution was justifiable and that the manager should be commended for the action.

GAS MANAGER'S RESIDENCE, An application was received from the Gas Manager asking the Counoil to ereot a residence for him as he had been given to understand when engaged five years ago that this would be done in time,

The Mayor said that he understood ' the question of a water supply would J come up for discussion. They had , not yet received any reply from • , Messrs Williams and Beetham, and " if any Councillor had anything to say » regarding a water supply he should • like to hear him.
