SUDDEN DEATH AT MASTERTON.

We regret to have to record t'ho very sadden death of Mr James Thompson, of Maßterton, which iooourred at his residence yesterday evening. Mr Thompson was about as usual yesterday afternoon, aiad after partaking ofliis evening usual sat down .in an armchair and appealed to fall quietly asleep. His daughter, Miss Mary Thompson, was the only other member of the family in (the house at the time, and was Bitting! in a chair at the fireside opposite hit father. She had been talking to 1; im before he fell asleep and never fori a moment imagined that anything IvaH the matter, until Mr Thompson Bl'iddeHly nave a deep Bi'gh, when lihe spoke to him and not receiving i an answer became Blarmed, and cabled out for assistance. Mr Peter Hunlier, came at once and medical aid wt sent for, but proved of no avail. ! Mr Thompson was a very iold resident of Mastertoh, having beeri in business here for several years, firsii as a baker, and afterwards as an ara'ted water manufacturer. Ho camel to the Colony about thirty years ago :'and wbb employed in the construction of the Queen's Wharf at Wellington. Subsequently he beoarae proprietor of the Ship Hotel, Wellington, and afterwards of an hotel at Feathersi'on, finally settling dowrUjr. MasterLon, where he made numerous friends.; The deceased was a member of the Masonio order, and was generally respeoted by all who knew him, The cause of death was diseaiie of the heart. \
