FIRE AT MASTERTON
Abon' half-past one o'clock, this morning, a fire broke out in the Argyle Boarding House, Queenstreet, occupied by Mr M. Sullivan, and before the alarm was given, the building was in flames. Both Fire Brigades turned out and although unable to save the building, v \ did valuable work in preventing the spread of the firo to tlio ad' r joining properties. Had the wind been in the opposite direction Mr C, j5, Daniell's timber yatd would almost certaiply have been destroyed, The origin of the fire.wbich is supposed to have atarted in the front sitting room, is unknown. The house, which contained fourteen rooms, was insured in the tjouth British for £250, and the furniture - a small portion of which was saved— ] was also insured in the same office for' £IOO, The house was full of people at the time, but all escaped safely, though most of the occupants lost all thoir personal effects. Mr E, G, Woolcott, js rather a heavy sleeper, was almost the last to be awakened.
