IN BANKRUPTCY.
Meeting of Creditors.
A meeting of creditors in tho estate of Joseph Billinglon, farmer, of Masterton, was called for this morning. No creditors, however put in an appearance, ThoD,O.A.(Mr % B, Chennells) received the following written statement from the debtor:—" The greater portion of the debts now owing by me wero incurred some six or seven years ago. At that timo I was leasing a property at Makora, and also carried on business as a butcher. Tho revenue I received from tho property barely paid the rental, and I lost about £6O in the business, I have mostly paid cash for goods supplied to me during tho last two or three years, and have also partly paid off somo of my old debts, I was compelled to file on account of summonses being issued against me by Mr J. J. Smith and Mr A. Mutrie. I havo no property other than that mentioned in the statement filed by mo with the Deputy Official Assignee." In reply to the D.0.A., the debtor statod that the bailiffs were put into bis house at a timo when his wife was lying ill, and this obliged him to file. Had been working as a laborer since giving up the lease of his property at, Makora. Did not wish to cheat any-' one out of a penny, but had a wifo and nine children to keep, the youngest being three days old, Could makei no offer, as all his earning were taken up to keep his family.
