W.A.A. AND C. CLUB'S ATHLETIC SPORTS.

[By Tipsier.]

The first annual sports, under tha auspices of the Wairarapa Amateur Atblelio and Cycling Club, to be held on tho Park Oval, Masterton, to« morrow afternoon, promises to bo highly successful, and if proves favourable, a great number o£ visitors will doubtless attead. From all accounts the fields will be the largest and the races the best contested of any previous Wairarapa gathering, and the local comroitteeara leaving 110 stono unturned to have the ground in good condition. Tho training of tho contestants baa for the past few evenings,, been critically watched, and my favourites for the different events are mentioned below.

The first race will be the Maiden, to bo run in throe heats, and I placo my confidence in for the first beat, Broad second, and Edward Eton fortlie third, the final to be placed Eton 1, Pringle 2, and Broad 8.

Tho High Jump should be won by 'MoKerrow or Gurr, with Eton iu a place.

For the One Mile Bicycle Baoo wa have eleven entries, and a fine eshi* bition will be witnessed. Pearse, tha aoratoh man, is at the present time suffering from an attaok of influenzal but expects to be at his post to-Tttor-row. D. Caselberg has been going excellently of late, and I fanoy him to lead at tho finish, with Pearsosecond, and Cooper third. The One Hundred Yards will be a fine sight, and the spectators will have to keep their eyes to see the finish, as it will bo mjfy&S!? Fifteen runners are nominated, but it will be fought out between several good men, and I pin my faith on D'Arcy for first place, Roake second, and Gurr third,

Jackson ought to win the Putting the Weight, on his previous reputation, Malcolm second, and McKerrow third,

Tho 220 Yards will be another splendid struggle for viotory, but this is D'Arcy's distance, and he will, in my opinion, breast tho tape ahead of Gurr, with Perry third, Tho Half-mile Race will prove a moral for Gurr, MoKerrow second, and Edward Eton third, I certainly should have given Jeffries a prominent place in this event, had ho not strained, his leg whilst training last evoning, and will probably be unable to compete, He was in splendid form, and was a firm favourite for the half-mile.

for the Two Mile Bicyole Race, Pear6e, if any way fit, will win as ha likes, Coops'r will bid well for the second place, with McLean well up. Tho Championship Raoo will ba the event of the day, as it will be a struggle for supremacy between Masterton and Wellington. Gurr is a firm favourite with a great many, and will 110 doubt run a magnificent race, but I fancy D'Arcy will prove too fast for him, and keep tho Championship in the Wairarapa. The Hurdlo Handioap, by last night's exhibition, ought to go to Turnbull; Gurr (if ho runs) seooud, and Broad third. C. Perry will be very close up if not placed. Turnbull and MoKerrow will probably take the flop, Step and Jump, between them. The Ladies Bracelet will be one of the most interesting ovontaof the day, especially for the fair sex, and Gurr can just about win, D'Aroy second,' and a race betweon Edward Eton and Jeffries for third place. Edgar Eton is undergoing a severecourso of training, and 1 would not bo surprised to aco him well up at tho finish of the race.

For tho One Mile Handicap, my man is Gurr, MoKerrow second, and Holmwood or Welch third.
