MEETING OF CREDITORS.
Estate of Thomas Geotge. Tho first meeting of the creditors in ths estate of Thas Georgo, settlor, was hnld this morning, at tho old Court House, Mnaterton, The creditors present worn Moeara R, M. Galloway, J. Muic, T. Wagg and 3, Graham, jr., Mr Chonnolls, D.O.A, presiding. Mr Beard appeared for tlio debtor, The debtor, sworn, stated ho hud bnen in business a little ovoroiglitcani months, and tlio dobts, oxcopt Dudson's £8 10s Od woro incurred durina tbnt tiuio, Mr Galloway's account of £2O Os Od was for rent of farm at Tnmahi, but ho hud censed to hare any interest in tho lease for five or six months. Ho badgot behind Willi the rent and Mr Galloway took possession. Tho debtor bad sublet tho property to Mr Dales, who paid debtor tbo rent, but did not hand it over to Mr Galloway. Mr Dalrymplo had received £3O runt from Mr Dales, and used it in paying Mr Blkins for rent of the place where debtor now lived. This was done an debtor's instructions. Debtor stated that he did not owe Mrs Baker the amount of the promissory not for which she had got judgment. There was about five months to run »f the lease of tha propeity on whioh he now lived. It would not bo of any value to tbe creditors. The actual value of the furniture was not more than £2O.
On the motion of Mr Graham, jr., seconded by Mr Wagg, it was resolved that the cheese plant mentioned in the debtor's statement be handed over to him in addition to his furniture.
The meeting then adjourned. Estate of George T. Bainton.
The first meeting of the creditors in the estate of G, T. Bainton, ofPahiatua, was held this (Wednesday) morning, in the Old Court House, Mr W. B. Chennells, D.0.A., presiding, Mr Gawith appearing for the debtor. There were no creditors present, and Mr Chennells received the written statement of the debtor as follows ; —I have carried on business in Wellington as a bricklayer and contractor. On the last contract I lost money, and was about £2OO behind when I left Wellington. This I was unable to pay. Since 1 have been in Pabiatua 1 have suffered several reverses, being unable to work for twelve months through getting my leg broken. Dur-; ing the worst part of last year my j wife was laid up, thereby causing me to spend a very considerable amount in medical expenses. As far as possible 1 had been trying to reduce the debts, but was pressed by Mr Birnie's Trustees and consequently had to file. There is an interest under my uncle's will, and I am preprepared to give tha Assignee every help to recover the money for the benefit of my creditors. Several lawsuits have taken place to recover this money, and two of the suits have been won at Leeds, in England. On being sworn, debtor aaid that he went to Pahiatua about six years ago. He met with (he accident in May, 1890. He had no property of his own, bat occupied a village section of fifty acres which he had held since 1886. It was mostly cleared and grassed, and about three parts fenced. The Government had advanced £7O, and he now paid £4 8s a year as rent and interest on the money borrowed. The good-will of tbe lease might be worth £IOO. The cows wore under bailment to Mr Chester. There were also four cows belonging to Mr K'oberts, of Newman' Tbe debtor decliaed to Lend over the lease of the village allotment. This closed the proceedings.
