THE JACOBSEN MYSTERY.
(Our Special Correspondent,) Although kept very dark the police believe they have very strong evidence in the supposed murder of Jacobsen in tho Woodville-Mangabao district. Inspector Pender intended visiting the locality yesterday, but tho rivors were in flood and bis visit had io be postponed, The suspicions of foul play began last Easter, and the police tiavo been quietly investigating and looking for their man since that time. Aldridge was reported to have been in Hawke's Bay and Canterbury, and Hambrook was taken to both these districts to identify him, tti reply to a remark that the case would be complicai'ed and difficult to bring hdni'e to Aldridge, Inspector Pender said,' "|f you as much as I do you would have my littlp doubt of pur case," Mr Pender has known tl'P B(!PPd since he was a hoy, Tbo preliminary chargo may ;; ut heavr] jfl Morton. poßsibly vv " ■ -. j
