Auckland, February 14. A publio meeting convened by tba Mayor was held to-day to raise a 1 local fund for reliaf of tho eufferers 1 by tlio Queensland floods. Tho sum 1 of £2BO was collected in the room, [ and a committee was appointed to canvass for subscriptions. It was decided, on tho suggestion of Sic George Grey, to Bend the money direct to tho Premier of Queensland, instead of through the New Zealand I Government, as was at first resolved by the meeting. It was also decided, on the motion of Mr Shera, r to ask the Government New Zoa» 1 land to send a Bum nudL shn colonial i revenue in aid of tßmferers if a 1 majority of the memWof the House . agree to such a course, Dunedin, February 14, The Dunodin Cycling Club hold -a sports meeting in aid of tho Queensland relief fund. London, February 14, Sir J, F. Garrick, Agent-General for Queensland, bas published a telegram from the Premior of the' Colony, to the effect thatit is not necessary to appeal to the publio, though privato assistance in aid of the sufferers by the floods would be gratefully rocoived. The Times states that the continued increase of colonial bills is not re* garded with favour in the city, and it is thought that Queensland will ask for a new loan with an Imperial guarantee on account of the floods. It hopes, that, despite tho Agent-Son-oral's letter, a Mansion House fund v will be started. jtflfjil Brisbane, February 15. Three bodies, those of two men and 'one woman, havo been recovered from tho river.
Tho Premier has receivad a telegram from the manager of tha Union Company as follows-"Have not a steamer loading for Brisbane direct; will, however, be glad to take 100 tons of gifts and supplies by Hanroto to Sydney free of freight, and have no doubt similar favourable arrangements can be jnade with the companies on tjie other-side as regards freight from Sydney to Brisbane. Hauroto loads at Oarnaru to-morrow, Timaru on Thursday, and Lytteltoq on Monday,"
